Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"It's my first time here and was highly recommended by my friend. We went shortly before it opened. Ambiance: 5/5 - the seating area is large, bright and spacious. The booth seats are also spacious. The seats are really comfy. Service: 5/5 - For a lunch time on a Friday, there are a lot of customers. They greeted us warmly. Once you enter, you have to go up an elevator to the front. They briefly explained the layout and the menu. The conveyer belt sushi delivery is fun. Everytime I hear it, I keep wondering if it's our order. When your order is arriving, it actually announces on Food: 4/5 - we ordered a lot of sushi. We ordered: -yam fries -sockeye salmon maki -aburi atlantic salmon -atlantic salmon nigiri -atlantic salmon sashimi -shiromi shio lemon trio: not too sure the lemon added much to the flavour profile -o-toro nigiri -truffle lobster nigiri: I really like this one. I also like that the plate is warmed. -shiromi trio -aburi hokkaido scallop nigiri: the deep fried shrimp on top was very smokey and overpowered the delicate scallop flavour -tuna tataki salad: it's light and refreshing with a punchy sauce -japanese wagyu sea urchin nigiri -japanese sea urchon nigiri -o-toro sea urchin nigiri -eggplant nigiri: I like that the eggplant is thick and the way that they scored it. It was just a little too oily for me. The sea urchin wasn't the freshest for me today. Overall, I enjoyed all the sushi. I just wish that nigiri was more packed. I couldn't pick it up in 1 piece as it kept breaking. Since there are a lot of orders, and you can only order 4 items at a time, I can see why you can get full easily. There is a time lapse between each set of orders."
"The fish was notably fresh, with the chu-toro and amberjack standing out in particular. During the Michelin chef collaboration feature, we tried the lobster aosa tempura and the aburi Hokkaido scallop nigiri. Both were well executed, though slightly on the salty side, likely due to the seaweed. The aburi oshi, however, was unexpectedly excellent and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The service felt unnecessary and unwelcoming, especially considering the restaurant primarily operates via conveyor belt delivery. Being rushed by staff despite the lack of direct service left a poor impression and raised questions about the justification for tipping."
"Came to Tora to celebrate a birthday with friends, there was a wait of around half an hour when we arrived but we took the time to wander the mall. The aburi sushi was all excellent, and I especially enjoyed the aburi tare sauce sushi. We also enjoyed trying the different cuts of tuna in the tuna trio set. Unexpected great bites were the tuna tataki and the eggplant sushi. The rolls were average, and the pressed oshi sushi had too much rice for the topping ratio. We also tried the mentaiko udon but thought the noodles were a bit overcooked. Come for the sushi and great quality fish!"
"We’ve been coming to Yorkdale for many years and I’ve never been to this restaurant. It was unbelievably delicious. The menu was a little awkward to navigate and with some trepidation and uncertainty we chose a few different items and as a frequent sushi eater rank this in the top two or three of all the Sushi places we’ve eaten in Toronto. I would highly recommend the salmon, avocado roll and the spicy tuna roll. Neither were very spicy, but both were twice as delicious as similar selections in other sushi restaurants. The other interesting thing about this restaurant is that the amount of sushi is about half of what you would get at another restaurant, however, the price is about half as well. This allowed us to try a few new and different sushi than we would normally try. We were very hesitant about the prices however, the overall costs of the meal was similar ( if not ) to every other sushi restaurant. It also has one of those sushi conveyor belts, which is kind of novel. We had seating immediately, And the service was excellent! And given the fact that we were in Yorkdale mall, despite being busy this was very quiet."
"Food quality was amazing, but be careful about how much you order, the price will catch up to you. I would say the rice is amazing and the fish is very flavourful. The experimentation between the Michelin collaboration and the seared dishes makes me want to visit again and try more. Staff were attentive, but I'm not sure how much more they can do given that this is a conveyor belt sushi. However, I will say the overall vibe of the place does give a bit more of a "all you can eat" persona that does not match the price and quality of the fish. Overall, highly recommend and will go back again!"
"Definitely should put into your must-try list if you are around Yorkdale. High quality fresh sashimi and sushi with good flavouring and touch to lift up the freshness. Also, the service is nice, when I told about shellfish allergy, I get a small booklet to tell me what I can order, and even all shellfish on my set was able to be changed to other fish, lovely act even they made a small error, having to change one of the sushi oshi , honestly I would like to try their ebi but I am really in an allergic status that cannot be naughty and try a little, anyway, give it a go as it is a worthwhile try By the way, their lunch sets are at a very good price so tourist should come and enjoy"
"Had a great experience at Tora Sushi! The fish was fresh, the portions were generous, and everything came out fast. The sushi rice was seasoned perfectly—not too sweet and not mushy. The staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy, and the atmosphere felt clean and relaxed. Overall, really solid quality for the price. I’d definitely come back and recommend it to anyone who wants good sushi in the area."
"Some of the best sushi we’ve ever had. The arbi torched chef recommendations were the best. Such a cool experience as well. Once you’re seated food comes fast and is sent directly to your table via a conveyor belt. Highly recommended!"
